RECORDS
At Hunky Dory, we take great pride in our vinyl. Our customers – NOT the internet – have first dibs on what we find.
This business model has certainly been appreciated by the Bull City and surrounding area: We opened with about 400 LPs and now have several thousand on the floor – with thousands more to come. (Many rare LPs are even sold at exactly what the shop has in it. Original 13th Floor Elevators for $50, anyone?)
Hunky Dory also buys collections – however big or small. We don’t just offer you $1 per record; we research the LPs to make sure you get what you deserve. This process might take a little more time for you, but browse and wait; we know it’ll be worth it.
Any day is good for flipping through our LPs, but try to come in on Wednesday and Saturday. That’s when shop owner Michael Bell puts out a fresh batch of about 100 LPs. We’re serious about our selection. You won’t have to thumb through thrift store garbage to find that rare gem. .
Hunky Dory is about 99 percent used vinyl, but Bell is a huge Radiohead fan, so you’ll definitely find some of their work. Other sealed reissues of classics you’ll likely see include the Velvet Underground, Captain Beefheart, Beatles, the Grateful Dead, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Curtis Mayfield and Al Green – just to name a few.
We also love bringing in the stuff that you want. If there’s some holes in your record collection, please let us know and we’ll try hard to bring it in for you. Become one of our regulars, and maybe one day you’ll find what you’re looking for in the bins with your name on it, with “free” written on the sticker.
